What’s an HDMI port?
First of all, let’s start at the beginning. Most people have an idea about HDMI but don’t know what it actually means.
HDMI stands for high-definition multimedia interface. These ports are used to connect to an HDTV, display, or other HDMI devices.
HDMI provides an interface between any audio/video source and an audio and/or video monitor over a single cable.

How do I connect an HDMI cable to my laptop?
HDMI ports are featured on some MacBooks.
At the same time, the opposite is also true on many MacBook models. But don’t despair, I have a solution for you.
If your laptop has any of the following ports, it can connect to HDMI devices.
USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port
If your laptop has a USB C or a Thunderbolt 3 port, you can use HDMI.
For that, you need an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter:

If your MacBook doesn’t have an HDMI port, you can connect this adapter to its USB C or Thunderbolt 3 port. Then you’ll connect your HDMI cable to the HDMI port on this adapter.
Mini DisplayPort
If your Apple laptop has a Mini Display Port, you can also use an adapter to connect to an HDMI cable.
To connect an HDMI cable, you need a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter. Like this one:

If your MacBook doesn’t have an HDMI port nor a USB C (or Thunderbolt 3) port, you can connect this adapter to the MacBook’s Mini DisplayPort. Then you’ll connect your HDMI cable to the HDMI port on this adapter.

Does the MacBook Air have an HDMI port?
