Best drone for kids review

Best drone for kids review

What is the best drone for kids? If you’re used to flying a drone yourself and you have children, it’s likely that your kids have seen you operating your more sophisticated machine and are desperate to try it themselves. Fortunately, there is a wide range of these devices specifically designed for youngsters of all ages.

When buying a drone for your children, you want something that’s easy to use, safe, sturdy, fun, and won’t break the bank. Choosing accordingly to the age range is very important as a device targeted for a 5-year old kid would not be the same as a more advanced drone appropriate for the delights of a 10-year old.

Thankfully, the prices have dropped significantly in the last years and the usability has become more friendly too, making it easier to control, even for small children.

There are a huge number of drones available on the market, and without checking some product reviews it can be hard to tell which is the most adequate for your child and get to know if it’s safe, resistant, and user-friendly for a beginner.

In this article, we’ll walk you through all that helping you make the best choice for the little one you are buying for.

In a hurry? Get these awesome products!

Having kids at very young ages, your best choice is the Red5, hands down. Highly inexpensive, sturdy, safe to use, and very easy to maneuver. The manufacturer claims it’s adequate for children from 18-month old (under parental supervision).

If you have young teens and you’re after a great all-rounder on a price tag that won’t break the bank, Altair AA108 is an awesome choice. It is a friendly camera drone and offers a fine video quality through its 720p HD lens.

The device also features some flying modes that can be adapted to children without any experience to more advanced ones, having a good progression range and being the best drone with camera for kids considering value for money.

If you’re after a more advanced device for your youngster and you have deep pockets, the DJI Mavic Mini is easily the best drone for kids on review, and also the most expensive by far. Offering features that you’ll only find in “adult” quality drones like Ultra-HD video, 28-minutes of flying time, and a wide range of flying distance.

This is a very small and light device, making it ideal to use inside your home. Small enough to fly through the rooms of your house and between furniture without much effort. Security-wise, it has full blade guards to prevent finger injuries. DJI Mavic Mini

Click the image to check the price on Amazon now!

Key features:

  • Age range: 13+
  • Flight Time: 28 minutes
  • Camera: 2.7K Ultra-HD
  • FPV: Yes

DJI is well known for its excellence, and this drone is quite a step ahead from the others on review here. The Mavic Mini is a palm-sized drone and it’s also very light. And despite its proportions and the ease of use, it may not be considered a toy by any means. It’s a great device, even for grown people.

We’re talking about a powerful and competent drone, more targeted for teenagers with ages of 13 and more, with higher demands in terms of flight time and camera quality. Despite being very easy to operate, it offers some specifications and capabilities on par with much bigger (and costlier) drones. That being said, it has the potential to last a lot of years with great usability.

It offers a stunning flight time of 28 minutes, which is impressive, especially considering its reduced size and weight. Because it’s so light, extra care should be taken when flying in windy conditions. Other than that, it is surprisingly stable. But there’s more, it can reach 1,600ft (490m) vertically and can range up to 2.5 miles (4km) from the operator which is outstanding for this type of device.

The camera is capable of recording video at 2.7K (Ultra-HD) and 1080p (Full-HD) both at 30fps. It also takes photos with a 12-megapixel resolution. The results are impressive for the size and type of drone, making it ideal if your teenage son is taking the first steps in professional photography.

This drone’s major downside is its price. Don’t get us wrong, it’s not overly pricey considering the overall specs and all it can offer, but when compared with other kid’s and teen’s drones, it’s priced well up in the spectrum. Not everyone is willing to spend so much on a gift, but if you do, nor you or your kid will be disappointed.

Pros:
  • Outstanding camera quality
  • Amazing flight time
  • Very compact and light
  • Great potential for evolution
Cons:
  • It’s a very expensive toy

Wrap Up

This article gives you an in-depth review trough a bunch of distinct drones targeted for kids of different ages, from young children to demanding teenagers.

The specifications and possibilities differ a lot, as well as the prices. From extremely affordable and simple “toys” to some pricey machines that are able to perform almost as good as adult’s expensive camera drones, you have a lot to choose from, depending on how deep your wallet is and on your child’s age and demands.

Drone X Pro review: is it any good?

Key features:

  • 2-Megapixel 720p camera sensor;
  • 328 ft (100-meter) range;
  • 10 minutes of flight time;
  • FPV;
  • Altitude Hold.

You may have seen it on YouTube or Google ads. Drone X Pro is being hugely acclaimed and that has triggered a lot of curiosity among many. But, is this drone any good?

It is a very compact, foldable drone and weighs only around 100g, being extremely easy to carry and great to travel with you without any effort. It comes painted in a nice metallic gray color scheme, which looks fine.

The portability is one of this device’s best features, making it stand out from the majority of the drones. It has a collapsible joint, so it can be easily folded between frames by holding the propellers and its body. The propeller blades are flexible so you can even fit this compact drone into your pocket.

This drone’s motors are not brushless, that being said, and also being so lightweight it’s not a great idea to use it under windy weather conditions.

Drone X Pro camera

The camera is easily the most important feature of any drone. It is the reason why drones exist in the first place. Drone X Pro with HD camera features a 2-Megapixel 720p sensor without optical image stabilization. It takes good shots and you can get decent footage with it, but don’t expect a professional or near-professional output.

Drone X Pro range

What is the range of the Drone X Pro? The flying range has also some limitations for most advanced users. It only goes up to a hundred couple feet (less than 100-meters), which can be enough for beginners, but that’s it.

Drone X Pro flight time

How long can the Drone X Pro fly? In terms of flying time, the manufacturer states 10 minutes, but the real deal is a bit less than that.

Once more, it’s acceptable if you’re a beginner and this is your first drone, and also it’s not a bad figure for what it costs. Although it doesn’t meet the requirements of a more advancer user.

Drone X Pro battery life

It includes a 3.7v 600 mAh battery that fits into the back area of the drone. Unfortunately, there aren’t any extra battery packs available (yet), so it’s not possible to extend how far can a Drone X Pro fly.

Other features

This drone comes with a night mode, with some LED lights at the front. Not the most powerful ones but they may get the job done at lower altitudes. With the drone, a remote controller is included. It has a very minimalistic design, which is in fact very helpful for beginners. It has features for taking off and landing, and to capture videos and photos.

You can also fly the Drone X Pro with your smartphone, using the app FHDFPV, which is available in the Play Store. With the app, you get access to some of the drone’s more advanced features, like gesture control, voice control, and smart flight modes.

It also has altitude hold and its default flight mode is a headless mode which is a great feature if you’re a beginner as it makes it easier to fly.

Wrap Up

So, is Drone X Pro any good? Well, it may be or maybe not, depending on what your expectations are and the purpose of what you’re buying the device.

Let’s face it, this drone is a nice toy if you’re a beginner willing to enter the world of drones, just that. It is nothing close to a high-end device. In fact, its specifications are on par with many entry-level drones.

It is, no doubts, a decent machine, and it is reasonably priced too. The Drone X Pro specs may not be on par with all the hype that it’s surrounding it, but they are the expected for what its cost is. The Drone X Pro price is fairly adjusted with its rivals.

If you’re about to buy your first drone, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money, or if you just need a highly portable device, you should definitely, consider it.

Pros:
  • Amazing portability
  • Great design
  • Good starting point in the drone world
Cons:
  • Limited range
  • Short battery life

This is another good option for those who are just starting with drones. The remote works at a distance of around 70-80 meters. It’s not a drone designed for distance, it’s most suitable for high-speed aerobatics.

It makes it easy to perform a variety of high-speed movements like ascending, descending, flying forwards and backward, side flying, and 360-degree rolling. The frame is lightweight but the superior design of the propellers provides maximum stability.

The live video feed comes from a 1080p HD camera of a 6-axis gimbal. It comes with the Follow Me feature as well as headless mode. It has GPS. Another feature to help beginners is the one-touch button.

There are a few other things we felt worth a mention. It has LED lights so you can use it at night. The frame is both durable and waterproof. Also, it comes with a protective cover.

Pros:
  • It’s great value for money for a well-made drone
  • It only takes one hour to recharge the battery
  • While it’s a good choice for beginners to learn, it also has awesome capabilities for when you have mastered the basics
Cons:
  • It’s a short-range drone

Wrap-Up

As you can now see, these are not inexpensive drones with cameras but they’re also not the most expensive drones for sale. But they do offer a lot of value for the money.

There are three drones that we have narrowed down the top of the list and they will depend on what you wish to use the drone for. The Ruko F11 is a great budget drone with high-quality features. We loved the 60-minute flying time. We felt this was great to give beginners the time to practice.

Although the AKIMPE is only suitable for short-range flights, we felt that the combination of function and price made this an excellent drone for various levels of expertise. It is safe enough for beginners and the experts will experience great fun performing some tricks.

While all of the DJI drones are amazing, our overall winner was the Parrot PF728000. In our opinion, it was slightly better priced and had many of the same features as the DJIs. The 4.6km range and 25-minute flight time are both high.

The camera is 4K Full HD with 21MP photos, perfect for professional use. We also found it handy that you can use the control or your smartphone to fly the Parrot drone.

Best Drones For Battery Life

Talking about drones, the range, price, and camera all vary for each. In this extensive review, we’ll look at the best drones for battery life with at least a maximum of 20-minute flight time.

It wasn’t that long ago that drones were only capable of flying for a very short period. Even a higher-end drone wouldn’t last much longer than 10 minutes in the air.

As the popularity of drones grew, companies realized that one of the most important features that needed to improve was the flight time.

Lithium polymer batteries are the best for extended flight time. LiPo batteries have a high energy density concerning their weight. They also have a higher voltage per cell, your drone can get the power it needs with fewer cells than other batteries. This means the battery will hold its power for longer.

It is also important not to completely drain LiPo batteries. It can reduce the overall performance of the battery. For this, it is important to choose a drone that recognizes when the battery is low.

The weight of drones also has a part to play. As with the battery, the heavier the drone, the more drain there is on the battery life. Regarding weight, any drone weighing more than 8.8oz (249g) and less than 55lbs (24.94kg) must be registered with the FAA.

In a hurry?

Get the JJRC H68 RC drone. With 40 minutes of flying time between two batteries and a one-key take-off and landing, it’s one of the best options combined with an affordable price.

Wrap-up

If we had to select a budget drone with long battery life it must be the JJRC H68 RC drone. We felt it was a fantastic price for a drone that ticked all of the boxes. With 40 minutes of flight time between two batteries, we reduce the problem of not everyone having a turn.

For professionals, the DJI Inspire 2 has excellent range, good flight time and a camera that might well be unbeatable at the moment. Nevertheless, if your budget doesn’t stretch that far, there is the Yuneec Typhoon H. It is a very stable drone with a wonderful camera.

There is a wide range of drones to choose from here and it’s very difficult to pick an overall best. That being said, the Parrot PF728000 is an excellent overall choice. The combination of 25-minute flying time and 6562ft (2km) range is good. Also, the quality of the camera and flight modes suits the price.

Wrap-up

There you go, 10 awesome drones on this price range. And you probably found one that fulfills your needs.

If you want to learn more about what to look for when choosing a drone, check out our

Which is the Best Drone to buy (Buying Guide)

Which is the Best Drone to buy

Drones are getting common nowadays and it seems to be a device everyone wants to have. It allows you to get awesome photos or videos. And we’re talking about footage that would be pretty much impossible otherwise. That’s why I’ve written this buying guide for you on which is the best drone to buy.

Maybe you’re wondering what is a drone. Well, they’re flying robots remotely controlled. You can control them with a drone controller or using your smartphone.

These devices use signals from onboard sensors and GPS for flight operations. You can use a drone for video recording or surveillance. Furthermore, it’s also valuable for search and rescue operations. Even for traffic and weather monitoring.

Drones are now being used for transporting orders to a pickup point in your area. Your next ordered meal could be one of those.

If you’re thinking of buying a drone this article is an excellent place to start.

Features to consider before purchasing the Best Drone

Before making the choice of buying a drone, you must consider a range of aspects.

I’ve gone through explaining each of the most important features. If you take these into consideration, you should make an awesome buying decision. And have a drone that will get you amazing footage.

These are the features to consider:

Range

The range of the drone is an important feature to consider before buying. The range tells you how far or what distance the drone can travel away from you.

Some drones are capable of covering a long distance. Meanwhile, some are built for more restricted operation areas. The range varies from product to product.

As an example, a beginner quadcopter can fly between the ranges of 164 ft (50m) to 328 ft (100m) using Wi-Fi frequency. At the same time, some more advanced drones can cover a range of 3.1 miles (5 kms) using wide radiofrequency.

Do you need to get the widest range product? No, you really don’t. It all depends on your purpose. In my opinion, for most users, a range of 3280 ft (1000m) will be more than enough. Maybe you don’t even need that much.

If you’re using a drone like a professional tool than it can be a different story. Always consider your requirements before choosing.

It’s good to use a GPS antenna when flying the drone over a long distance to avoid losing it. It’s also important to know where you want to fly the drone.

Some areas are restricted and drone usage is prohibited. That’s the case in the airport areas. There have been some incidents where airplanes have been hit by drones. Word to the wise: fully respect these restrictions. Use your drones in safe areas only.

A longer-range might be a great asset if you want to use it far away from cities. If you plan to use it in urban areas you probably will keep it at a closer range.

Beware that signal interference can also occur. Consider well where you intend using your drone. In some areas signal reception might be difficult, causing temporary loss of it.

The further the drone is from you, the weaker the signal will be. Cities and areas with the usage of wireless communications generate more interference.

Battery runtime

The battery is very crucial; it determines the flight time of the drone. The more battery capacity a drone possesses, the more the flight time.

Expensive drones come with a high in-built battery capacity that can last up to 15 to 35 minutes runtime. The more affordable ones usually can last up to around 12 minutes.

More sophisticated drones can stay longer in the air. So, always check the capacity of the battery before purchasing it.

As in many other aspects, the higher your requests, the higher the price.

But don’t worry. I’ll be giving you some recommendations to get an awesome drone without breaking the bank.

Camera specs

A great camera will make it easier for you to capture some stunning aerial footage. Drones are built with a variety of camera specifications. And nowadays new features are added to the camera to make them smarter and easier to use.

Some drones are capable of taking pleasant snapshots. And also video recording, with their built-in HD camera features.

Action cameras can be attached to some drones.

At other price points, drones will allow a DSLR. But remember that’s a considerable weight for a drone to carry, so it’s only possible in more capable drones. And you’ve guessed it, a lot more expensive, too.

Affordability

Drones are becoming less expensive as technology evolves. A lot less expensive. It would seem impossible a few years ago to have this much quality in such affordable devices.

Improvements in drone technology have been constant in recent years. That includes more enhanced features and better camera quality. Also longer flight time and more power capacity.

Some drones are expensive while some are cheap, it really depends on what you need. Some are made for specific purposes like for kids, student drones, and photography. The best choice to make is to choose the best drone you can afford that’s able to fulfill your requirements.

Right mobile device

Another aspect to consider is using the right mobile device for the drone. Mobile devices come with varieties of features and some are not compatible with a drone.

Many drones are controlled by a mobile device instead of a drone controller.

It’s vital to know if the mobile device is designed with all the features required to operate the drone.

The software application is an essential thing to consider. It’s necessary to download the right apps to use with it.

The drone app helps you fly the drone, record your flight, track weather conditions, and more. And you have several ones available to download. Ensure you download one that is recommended by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Need for registration

Fore safety measures you might need drone registration. Please check if that’s the case in your area. The registration will keep you safe in case something goes wrong or if the drone is manipulated.

You also have to provide all registration requirements during registration. It’s essential to register the drone if it’s required in your region. Some flying guidelines will be given to you after the registration. Please follow them to safeguard the usage of the device.

In the United States of America, you’ll have to register it if it weighs more than 0.55 lbs (250g). Register it with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). For complete and updated information check the FAA site.

Number of rotors

It might seem like just a technical detail but it makes a world of difference. Please, don’t ignore it!

Drones are built with many rotors. A Tricopter has three vertical rotors while a Quadcopter has four rotors.

The Hexacopter… yes, you guessed it… it has six rotors. Unsurprisiginyl, an Octocopter has eight rotors.

Why does this matter?

Different numbers of rotors provide different results.

Tricopters

Tricopters have fewer parts and that is good in the cost department. That was particularly important when these components were a lot more expensive. Nowadays, not so much.

Having yaw control at the tail helps the drone feel more agile and smooth.

Quadcopters

Nowadays the cost of drones is a lot lower than before. That helps to make quadcopters very popular today.

They are not as agile as a Tricopter. But they have more lifting power. They are maneuverable and can fly in any direction. Hovering is also easy for this configuration.

Stability is another field where they excel against the Tricopters.

Hexacopters

The quadcopters are very good. So why would you consider a Hexacopter?

Simply put, because they add two rotors and improves almost everything on the Quadcopter. They’re even better for catching great photos or making video footage.

Is there anything where they are not better than a Quadcopter? Yes, there is.

More rotors mean more size and weight. And, most of all, hexacopters are more expensive to buy and to repair.

Octocopters

And then there’s still the Octocopters. And you’re probably guessing the advantages and disadvantages.

If Hexacopters are better than Quadcopters, Octocopters are even better. Eight propellers provide even more lifting force.

Some of then even allow you to attach more than an action cam by being able to use a full-sized DSLR. And they will carry it around adequately. Or they might carry objects. Some companies are now using drones to ship orders.

As you already understood, at this level we’re talking about high-end drones.

They’re also quick. The stability is even better and allows to fly in rain and face strong winds.

Nothing is perfect and it also has its cons. You know the main drill when we talk about high-end products. Top prices come included, too.

In case of needing repairs, your wallet is going to suffer again. Battery efficiency is not the main priority so expect regular changings.

Type of drones

It’s important to consider the kind of drone you want before you get it. There are several types of devices. Let’s check them out:

Beginner drones

The name doesn’t leave any doubts. These are developed thinking of beginners to the drone world.

They’re smart, cheap, portable, and durable. Most are built with good quality material. They come with a mode that ensures beginners learn basic flying techniques.

If everything drone-related is new to you, these ones might be a great option.

Racing drones

Yes, I also didn’t know that some time ago. But drone racing is a thing, really!

They have enhanced features that provide the best experience during racing events. They’re designed with small quad-copter UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) for the first-person view (FPV) racing events. These are held around the world.

Professional drones

These types of drones have advanced features. They’re generally better suited while using a drone in a professional activity. Those include avoidance detection systems and intelligent flight modes. These ensure you have great flying experiences.

Camera drones and selfie drones

Again, their main function is quite clear by their names. They’re made especially for taking accurate snapshots. They have advanced camera options for taking images and also recording videos.

GPS drones

These devices are great at delivering accurate hovering position. Probably not too useful for a regular user. But it can be a must in a rescue mission.

Foldable drones

Like the name says, they fold. They’re very good for travelers. Folding them makes them very compact. And they’re usually quite light. All in all, portability is usually one of their best attributes.

Educational drones

These might not be too clear but they’re interesting options for its public. Their main qualities are the abilities to be programmable and codable.

You can code your drone with custom flight paths by programming its API module.

Educational drones are a favorite of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students.

Other features to consider

There are some other features you would like to take into consideration. For example RTF, ARF, BNF, FPV, and RTH. I know, I know, that sounds like just a bunch of letters put together. Let’s make each of them clearer.

The RTF (Ready to fly) means the drone requires little or no assembly. After you unpack it’s pretty much ready to fly.

Then there are the ARF (Almost ready to fly). That means the drones may need some minor adjustment before use. The same can be said of additional equipment, like Rx (Radio receiver) and Tx (Radio Transmitter), for instance.

The BNF (Bind-N-fly) models have a receiver. But they don’t have a transmitter. You have to get a transmitter separately and use it. Or use one that you already have.

The FPV (First-person-view) is the video feed from the camera of the drone. It’s a great aid for piloting or framing a photo or a video.

Another great feature is RTH (Return to home). This makes the drone fly back to its base automatically. Be sure to see how RTH works to avoid incidents.

Follow Me enables the drone to automatically follow you around. This can be of invaluable usefulness for you to capture unique aerial filming and shots
