If you are new to Apple CarPlay, it is a system that allows you to connect your iPhone to your car’s built-in dashboard either via USB or in some cases, wirelessly. Your favorite apps like WhatsApp, Spotify, and Google Maps appear on the car’s home screen.

From here you can use them from the touchscreen, the steering wheel controls, or by voice commands when you active Siri.

It’s a very smart and very safe way to drive and still be able to use certain features of your iPhone. Today, we are going to focus on the best way to receive weather information using CarPlay while you are driving.

It’s a bugbear for many CarPlay users that there are not more apps dedicated to weather updates. If you were hoping to learn about apps like Carrot Weather and Dark Sky, sadly, they aren’t compatible with Apple CarPlay, at least not yet.

Weatherology

Weatherology has over 30 years of experience delivering the weather forecast. This experience is now combined with patent-pending technology to provide real-time audio weather reports. You will receive warnings, bulletins, and notifications that are personalized for you.

The up-to-the-minute weather radar allows for fast and accurate weather information in your exact location. You will also find hourly and 5-day forecasts that you can see on your screen.

As well as your location, you can find out what the weather is like all over the world. If you are an outdoors person, take advantage of the projected snowfall to plan your hobbies. Naturally, it fully supports Siri. It is a free app that requires iOS 12.0 or later.

But surely there are other solutions?

Yes, though CarPlay is certainly limited on weather apps, luckily, we have investigated other ways that you can catch up on the weather forecast while connecting your iPhone to Apple CarPlay.

Apple Maps

At least Apple has been kind enough to allow us to get a weather service with Apple Maps. You can zoom in on the map on your display until the weather icon appears. This will give you the current weather conditions in your area.

You will also be able to see an hourly forecast and a 20-day forecast. There is further information about weather conditions and air quality and you can turn this off if you feel you don’t need it. Naturally, there is full Siri support with Apple Maps.

Google Maps

Google Maps is already a favorite app for many and you will probably already have it installed on your iPhone. Google added a weather layer. At the top right-hand corner of Google Maps, you will be able to find out the weather conditions and temperatures thanks to the rain and cloud icons.

If you zoom in, you can get further weather information on a specific location anywhere in the world. If you need to look further ahead, there is a 5-day forecast. Google Maps works with Siri so you can still use voice commands to navigate but you will have to touch the weather icon for updates.

Waze

Waze is theoretically another navigation app but it has a very strong community of sharers behind it. While you won’t be able to receive official weather updates, you will have the Waze community uploading reports and images of weather warnings in the area.

Many people find that Siri works better with Waze than Google Maps, so if you were to choose a navigation system with community weather information, Waze is a great choice.

What if I don’t want a navigation app?

We are reluctant to call this a 100% solution for receiving the weather forecast or as an alternative to a CarPlay weather app as it will very much depend on the software you are running on your iPhone and the default apps.

Apple obviously has it’s own weather app that is compatible with Siri and depending on the system you have, you might be able to access it through CarPlay.

When your iPhone is connected to your infotainment screen, click on CarPlay settings. You will have the option to add or delete apps that you want to appear on your home screen. If the Apple weather app appears, you are in luck.

Wrap Up

One might say that it’s incredible how we can put a man on the moon but there is only one weather app for CarPlay. Don’t let this put you off.

The options above are great solutions and you will also find that your compatible news app has weather information. With a little patience, we are sure that Apple will fill this void in their product services.
