How to download media from WhatsApp (audio, photos, and video)

Knowing how to save and keep WhatsApp multimedia stuff in a secure location is highly important.

Think of that bunch of photos from the last vacation your friend just sent you. Or those personal photos that were sent by your girlfriend and you don’t want to lose at any cost.

If you have an Android or iOS device – be it a phone or a tablet – those operating systems will keep, by default, every multimedia file in a dedicated folder under your device’s gallery once you have downloaded them.

Having that said, in most circumstances, videos, pictures, and other media files are automatically saved in your device’s internal storage as soon as someone shares that content with you on WhatsApp. You can access it through your gallery app.

Note: WhatsApp lets you choose to automatically or manually download Photos, Videos, or Audio whenever you’re using mobile data or Wi-Fi networks. If you have the automatic setting disabled, then you have to tap each photo, video, or audio to manually download it, so it shows in the specific folder through your device’s gallery.

How to download photos from WhatsApp

On your Android device

As we stated above, if you don’t have your photos set to automatically download from WhatsApp to your phone when you’re using Wi-Fi or mobile data, you need to go through an additional step.

  • Then tap on the download icon present on the photo to save it to your Android phone or tablet;

  • Next, open your device’s gallery app and choose the “WhatsApp Images” folder. You may find it under the “Other” or “More” section of the Gallery;

On your iPhone

If you’re using WhatsApp on your iPhone don’t worry, we’ve got you covered as well. Downloading images is also very easy on these devices.
